UPDATE: Littlehampton man ‘stable’ after being pulled onto Worthing rail tracks by dog

Emergency services were called to the scene last night (July 30) after the man, thought to have been on a mobility scooter, was pulled onto the tracks by his dog.

A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said the man suffered a cardiac arrest as a result of the fall.

A BTP spokesman this morning (July 31) confirmed the man was in a stable condition: “We were called to West Worthing rail station shortly before 4pm on Thursday, July 30, after a report of a person on the tracks.

“Officers from BTP and paramedics from South East Coast Ambulance Service attended the scene.

“A 40-year-old man, from Littlehampton, was safely removed from the tracks and taken to hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

“Officers are treating the incident as an accident.”

Rail services were severely disrupted between Brighton and Portsmouth with a number of delays and cancellations.

The line was reopened though delays continued into the evening. Police said his dog was uninjured.
