Two hurt in crash as snow returns to West Sussex

TWO people were injured in a car crash near Findon this morning (Saturday, December 18) as snow made driving conditions hazardous across West Sussex.

A woman and a boy were taken to Worthing Hospital following the crash, shortly after 9.15am, on the southbound carriageway of the A24 Findon bypass, near Worthing Crematorium.

The crash involved three vehicles.

Two fire crews from Worthing and a heavy rescue tender went to the scene, but it’s not thought that anyone was trapped in the crash.

A mixture of snow, hail and rain made conditions difficult, but in most places there was no more than an inch of snow.

However, police have asked motorists to continue to take care, with temperatures still hovering around freezing. The A29 at Bury Hill, between Arundel and Pulborough, was said to be particularly hazardous, and parts of the A27 in the Chichester area had slow moving traffic.

Airline passengers at Gatwick faced disruption today, with BA flights to Europe and within the UK cancelled until 5pm.

Angmering Community Centre’s Christmas craft fair, due to take place this morning, was among the events cancelled because of the bad weather.
