Travellers have moved into the site of a disused doctors surgery in Shoreham, opposite a primary school.
Residents reported to Sussex Police that travellers arrived at the former medical centre in Eastern Avenue, Shoreham, on Tuesday, March 1, around 5.40pm.
Chickens can be seen nesting in small cages beside a number of caravans.
The site is just a stone’s throw away from St Nicolas and St Mary CofE Primary School.
Adur District Council said it is aware of the travellers and contact has been made with the firm of surveyors who are responsible for the property.
Sussex Police are also in the process of contacting the landlord directly.
A spokesman for the council said: “We are aware of travellers at this address and West Sussex County Council have attended with the Police.
“The Police have advised that they will enforce Section 62 of the Criminal Justice & Public Order Act 1994 and direct the travellers to leave the land, once they have spoken to the Landlord and confirmed his instruction to proceed.”
