POLICE and council officers are dealing with a traveller encampment in Shoreham this afternoon.
Five caravans moved in to the car park at Mill Hill today, after arriving at the Ropetackle North development site on Wednesday.
Welfare assessments will be undertaken and the travellers will be offered spaces on the Westhampnett transit site under special powers available to Sussex Police.
If they refuse, police can order them to leave the county for three months.
A welfare officer from West Sussex County Council is on site.
