A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in the crash on the approach to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, near Chichester, shortly before 6am on Saturday, June 25.

The collision is still contributing to what police called ‘significant traffic jams’ in the whole area, stretching back from Goodwood to the A27 and beyond.

Traffic is backed up towards Midhurst and Petworth.

Marshals are assisting police with local road closures, including Pook Lane and Chalk Pit Lane.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area if at all possible and to show patience if they are caught in the jams.

Elsewhere, Palesgate Road in Crowborough is reportedly closed in both directions between the B2157 Green Lane junction and the B2100 Rotherfield Road junction because of flooding.

Train services to and from Chichester are also likely to be much busier than normal due to the Festival of Speed, which finishes on Sunday evening.
