Sussex travel evening update: coastal congestion as beachgoers make the most of the sun

Several coastal roads in Sussex are seeing heavy traffic as beachgoers enjoy the sun this evening, June 24.

There is slow traffic on Pett Level Road both ways between Pett Road and Sea Road and there is queueing traffic on Camber Road Westbound around New Lydd Road. It is affecting traffic between Rye and Camber as people are heading to the beach, according to travel reports.

Traffic is also slow on the A259 High Street Westbound at A283 Old Shoreham Road (The Bridge Inn roundabout).

In the Shoreham area there is queueing traffic on the A27 Shoreham By Pass Westbound at A283 Steyning Road (Steyning turn off).

There is also slow traffic on A259 Brighton Road Eastbound at The Saltings (Saltings Roundabout) in the construction area.

There are temporary traffic lights causing delays.

Very slow traffic is causing delays on the A21 Northbound from A262 (Forstal Farm Roundabout) to Clay Hill Road.

In Chichester, Wellington Road is closed both ways between A286 Broyle Road and Connolly Way due to construction works.

In Barnham, water mains work has closed B2233 Barnham Road both ways between Lake Lane and Gospond Road.

In Worthing, one lane is closed on Tarring Road, near West Worthing Railway Station, due to ongoing telecoms work.

Water mains work is taking place on B2195 Harwood Road both ways between Horsham Railway Station and Kings Road. A closure has been put in place by Southern Water.

One lane remains closed due to construction on M23 Northbound at J10 A264 Copthorne Way (Crawley). Lane one (of three) is closed.

In East Sussex, the B2204 at The Green in Catsfield, near Battle, is reportedly partially blocked both ways near Church Road due to a stalled car. Traffic is said to be coping well.

The B2165 remains closed both ways between Watts Palace Lane and Watermill Lane, outside Rye, due to water mains works.

In Crowborough, Whitehill Road is closed due to construction on Whitehill Road both ways between Fermor Road and Mill Lane.

College Road in Seaford remains closed both ways from Corsica Road to Cricketfield Road due to gas main works.

In Brighton, Madeira Drive and Dukes Mound remains closed between Palace Pier and Sussex Square due to coronavirus restriction measures.
