Shoreham lifeboat crew rescue stricken man from sea

The Shoreham all weather lifeboat crew saved a life and towed in two broken down fishing boats in what was a busy three days.

The all weather lifeboat had just launched on a training exercise on Wednesday, September 21, at 6.10pm when the crew was tasked to a report of a man who had jumped off the Palace Pier, Brighton, and was in difficulty in the water.

The crew found the man holding onto a life ring attached to the south end of the pier.

The inflatable Y boat was launched from the lifeboat to rescue the man and he was brought on board and taken to Brighton Marina.

He was then transferred to a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital to be checked over.

The all weather lifeboat was launched to a report of a broken down fishing boat eight miles south west of Shoreham Harbour on Friday, September 23, at 6.35am.

The 30ft vessel with one person on board had lost power near the Rampion wind farm.

The boat was located and towed into Shoreham Harbour by the lifeboat.

The all weather lifeboat was launched again 11 hours later to another fishing vessel which had broken down seven miles south west of Shoreham Harbour near the Rampion wind farm.

The 21ft angling boat with two people on board had lost power.

She was taken undertow to the entrance of the harbour and the inshore lifeboat was then launched to take her through the locks to her mooring in the harbour.
