His motorbike mounted the kerb on the central reservation and crashed into a tree, a spokesperson for Sussex Police said.

Paramedics and a doctor from the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance attempted to save the motorcyclist but were unable to do so.

Police believe no other vehicles were involved. The road was closed for almost four hours while emergency services were at the scene.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information can email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting Operation Abbot.
