Major incident: A27 shut after Shoreham Airshow crash

The A27 was closed in both directions after a plane crash at Shoreham Airshow early on Saturday afternoon.

The major road was shut between the turnoff onto the A293 at Shoreham Harbour, Southwick, and the Sompting roundabout junction with the A2025 Grinstead Lane, South Lancing.

Serious congestion was reported west of the accident scene, extending as far as the junction with the A24 at Worthing, but began to improve by late afternoon.

Airshow attendees said they were kept on the site for some time because wreckage from the plane had come down close to the main exit.
