M23 to be closed for emergency repairs

The M23 will be closed both ways for three nights starting tonight while the central reservation, which was damaged over the weekend, is repaired.

The motorway was shut between junction 8 and 10 after fuel spilled from a lorry which had been involved in a road traffic collision in the early hours of Saturday morning (November 28).

Pictures from the scene showed the lorry coming to a rest on the central reservation.

On Wednesday (December 2), Thursday (December 3) and Friday (December 4), the road will be closed both ways between junction 8 and 10.

Each day, the closure will start at 9pm and finish at 6am.

There will be a diversion from junction 10, along the A264 and A22 for the M25.

People heading to Gatwick Airport using the northbound carriageway will be diverted off at junction 10 and will used the A2011 and A23.

Each day the roadworks take place, there will also be narrow lanes northbound past the damaged barrier.

From Saturday morning, there will also be a lane 4 closure southbound past the damaged barrier.

The traffic management will remain in place until Saturday, December 12.
