Highways England '˜disappointed' by Government decision to drop A27 scheme

The chief executive of Highways England says he is disappointed with the Government's decision to drop the Chichester A27 improvement scheme.

Jim O’Sullivan said: “We are grateful to everyone who took the time to engage with our consultation last summer on improving the A27 through Chichester.

“We are obviously disappointed at this decision as the improvement would have brought significant strategic benefits to the region.

“But any improvement had to be right for Chichester and there was no overall consensus.

“We will continue to work with partners to monitor the route’s performance and to carry out any short term measures we can to help road users, the local community and the region.”

The Government’s transport secretary Chris Grayling yesterday wrote to Mr O’Sullivan saying he was cancelling the Chichester scheme. Full story here
