Trade Minister Lord Green offers hope to small and medium firms for export week

Trade and investment minister Lord Green offered encouragement to small and medium enterprises as part of a visit to Ricardo engineering in Shoreham for national export week.

The senior Conservative from Hurstpierpoint praised facilities at the company’s technical centre, which has just signed an £18 million pound deal to acquire leading environmental consultancy firm AEA.

During his visit to West Sussex, the minister toured Ricardo’s McLaren engine manufacturing facilities, which he hailed as a significant in the region’s economy.

He said: “In employing 650 people, Ricardo is very important to the area in developing its range of high tech components which are continuing to grow the business around the world.

“With national export week we are aiming to encourage more and more businesses like Ricardo and companies that are smaller to help rebalance the economy and stimulate growth through international markets – this is the big challenge the country is facing.”

He added his two years in post had been hugely rewarding in leading trade missions. Offering encouragement to emerging firms, he added: “In every city I’ve visited in the country I’ve found companies that are world class. For those looking to export, UKTI are there to help them deal with international markets and how to get the most potential out of them.”
