A TESCO Express store was closed this morning after customers and staff were concerned about a strong smell inside (Friday, February 19).
The smell had been lingering in the shop, in Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham, since Wednesday.
An environmental health team visited this morning and found a blocked drain.
A spokesperson for Adur and Worthing councils said: “The council’s environmental health team visited the store to investigate earlier this morning.
“Tesco have agreed to close the store as a precaution to ensure there is no risk to the public, whilst they carry out the necessary work to fix the drainage issue.”
The store has now been re-opened.
A spokesman for Tesco said: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers by the brief closure and any unpleasant smell.
“The problem has now been resolved and the store is re-open.”
