SHOREHAM Academy’s new principal has been appointed, following the departure of Heidi Brown last summer.
Jim Coupe, who has been acting principal since September, will now take on the role permanently.
United Learning and the Academy’s governing body said the appointment had been made after an extensive national recruitment exercise.
Jon Coles, chief executive of United Learning, said: “We were looking for an exceptional principal to build on the progress at Shoreham Academy and are delighted to have appointed Jim Coupe from a field of very strong candidates.
“Under his leadership, the academy has enjoyed two highly successful terms and he is held in high esteem by students and staff alike.”
Mr Coupe held the role of vice principal when the academy first opened, in 2009. Ofsted has since graded it as ‘outstanding’ and the academy performed ‘excellently’ in this year’s league tables, with student progress among the best in the county and boys at the school are progressing faster than at any other in West Sussex.
Mr Coles added: “As vice principal since 2009, Mr Coupe played an important role in transforming the academy into an ‘outstanding’ school. He is a talented leader and is well placed to guide the academy on the next stage of its journey.”
Mr Coupe said he was thrilled to have been appointed principal.
“This is a fantastic school with superb teachers and inspirational students,” he added.
“I look forward to working with them for many years to come as together we continue to drive the academy forward.”
