Swarovski jewellery up for grabs in prize draw

The Diapason set, worth £199, was designed by Swarovski ambassador and model Miranda Kerr.

Pressleys, a fixture in Worthing town centre for more than a century, has offered the prize to celebrate the opening of its new Montague Street store, next door to its Pandora concept branch.

Managing director Jonathan Pressley said: “This is a fantastic location for our new store and we are excited to be working with so many great brands to bring the best possible selection of jewellery to Worthing.

“We are confident that this store will be the go-to jewellery destination for everyone in Worthing and the surrounding area.”

The new Montague Street store stocks popular fashion brands such as Michael Kors and Links of London.

The store will host a special event to further celebrate its opening over this weekend, with shoppers receiving a special gift if they spend over £100. Store manager Sadie Berg said: “‘As we are getting closer to Christmas, it will be great to introduce new and exciting jewellery brands to Worthing.”

Pressleys Jewellers has been a landmark store on the Worthing high street since it opened in 1909.

Over the years, the business has expanded and become a destination for jewellery enthusiasts in Sussex, offering a wide range of luxury timepieces and fine jewellery.

The business was started when Jonathan’s great-great grand-dad, George, a jeweller and street trader in north London, sent his son, George ‘Harry’ Pressley, to Worthing to apply for a job in a jewellers.

His father had given him the five shilling fare from his home, telling Harry to ask for the return fare if he was not given the job.

Jonathan said: “He had the gift of the gab. Worthing at the time was very wealthy and was the place to go.

“He got the job and one thing led to another, and he eventually opened his own shop.”

Starting in Montague Street, the business moved to another premises across the road, before relocating to South Street in 1935, yards away from where Harry had learned his trade.

His two sons, Harry and Reg, joined the business straight from school.

Later, Reg’s son, Charles, joined too, and in 1974, his brother, Neville, teamed up with him and the pair expanded to Brighton and Bognor, after taking over Sussex Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company.

The company celebrated its centenary in 2009.
