Sussex Police officers help with London riots

SUSSEX Police provided a small number of officers to assist the Metropolitan Police last night (Monday, August 8) with the ongoing riots in London.

All officers have now returned safely to Sussex.

The support was drafted from officers who would have otherwise been on rest days and normal policing was not affected.

The force said any further requests for support in the coming days will be considered alongside the need to maintain local policing.

The South East Air Support Unit’s two helicopters – based in Sussex and Hampshire – also assisted the Metropolitan Police.

Overnight rumours of unrest in Sussex were circulating via social media sites, however Sussex Police was not called to any related incidents of violence or disorder in the county overnight.
