There were also eight individual Unit awards and 33 Leavers certificates presented.

“This is a positive reflection of the work that our young people are doing with the support of dedicated police staff/leaders.

“Well done to all of you for your hard work and commitment.”

She said: “It is always an honour to attend the annual parade and show my appreciation for the huge commitment shown by Sussex Police Cadets.

“Whenever I attend local police events there is always a group of willing Cadets on hand to assist and this is testament to their dedication to serving the wider police family and the people of Sussex.

“The Volunteer Cadets scheme provides a fantastic training ground for young people in Sussex who want to give something back to their local community.

“I was delighted to be asked to speak at the event about the work of another group of young volunteers - the Sussex Youth Commission - and my commitment to developing volunteering opportunities to help keep Sussex safe.”

The Sue Elliott Memorial award is in memory of PC Sue Elliott who was a PC at Brighton.

Initially Sue joined as a Special Constable in Crawley where she helped run the Cadet unit, then became a PC and was posted to Brighton.

Sue was known to all the cadets and ran a ‘tight ship’ in Brighton and Hove, where the cadets became National Champions in 2006 - a title they hold to this day.

Sue passed away in 2007 after battling a long illness. Her family have provided a cup in memory of her name.
