Sussex people extrovert and conscientious according to new survey

People in Sussex tend to be conscientious, extrovert but lacking in overall friendliness, according to a new report by the University of Cambridge.

The survey of almost 400,000 British residents over two years has flagged up significant differences in personalities between UK regions.

Parts of Sussex have been highlighted as high for extroverts - defined in the survery as social and energetic.

Agreeableness ranks lower than average in Sussex, with residents not so friendly, trusting and kind.

There are high levels of conscientiousness in much of southern England, showing people in Sussex are organised and exhibit self-control

Also people in Sussex and much of the south are far less neurotic than those in Wales, for example.

And when it comes to openness of experience (creative and imaginative), Sussex people can take it or leave it.

The online survey covered the 380 local authority areas of England, Wales and Scotland.

The project was conducted by Cambridge University and the BBC’s Lab UK project, with the results published in the journal PLOS ONE.

However, the researchers are keen to point out that not too much detail should be read into the results.

“I wouldn’t move house on the basis of this survey,” one said.
