Students ready to run for Shoreham RNLI

Craig Searle and Tom Wickett, both 15, and from Shoreham, will run from Brighton lifeboat station to its Shoreham counterpart to raise money for the RNLI. The pair, both students at St Andrew’s School, Worthing, have been volunteering at the Shoreham station for three months, as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.

Craig, who will be running the 6.8miles despite breaking his collar bone as he came off his mountain bike about six weeks ago, said: “It’s been good. I’ve been there quite a few times, I’ve been out with the boat, and I really like it.

“It’s good to help out, and it’s something I like to help with, because I sail myself, I’m a member of the Sussex Yacht Club.”

He added that it was a very important charity.

“It saves lives,” he said.

He and Tom were both looking forward to the event, on February 25, added Craig, who lives in Church Green. We have not done a run before,” he said, “but at school we have done charity walks.

“I can do it, though. I am very excited about it. We both play rugby, and we are both quite fit people.”

They were hoping to raise “as much money as possible” for the Shoreham lifeboat station, said Craig, who estimated that more than £100 had already been pledged.
