The store on Chapel Road recently put up closing down signs in its windows after weeks of speculation over the future of the shop.

In June it was reported that the fashion chain was trying to fend off store closures by asking landlords to accept lower rents.

Town centre manager Sharon Clarke said the store would close by the end of September.

She added: “It’s unfortunate. People are saying they’d like to see more retail in the town centre but their shopping habits are doing the opposite.”

She also quashed rumours that Primark would take over the space, saying it is due to it being smaller than 25,000 square feet.
