Members were told at the club’s annual meeting on January 25 there would no longer be space for their 20 dispay stands at the Pond Road centre.

Sheila Powell said the issue had caused ‘a very lively debate’ and prompted a call for help from the community.

“The club has had an excellent relationship over many, many years with the Shoreham Centre, where the twice-weekly meetings and the very popular annual exhibition in July each year are held,” she said.

“Members were pleased to hear about the planned renovations and alterations at the centre but dismayed to learn that in future, there will be no room to store their 20 display stands, used each year for the exhibition.

“Many ideas were put forward by members as possible storage places and will be followed up. However, one suggestion was to appeal to the folk of Shoreham to ask if anyone could offer us storage space for either all the screens or even just some of them.”

The stands measure about 6ft by 5ft, each with two detachable frames. They are used at the annual exhibition, where members display both framed and unframed paintings.
