Steyning Horticultural Society saw another good turnout at its Spring Flower Show on Saturday, despite the effects of the warm winter and daffodils blooming early.
Jenny O’Hagan produced a stunning vase of daffodil blooms and won the R H How Cup for the best vase of nine. She also scooped the Daffodil Society Bronze Medal for the best vase of flowers in the show.
Chairman Charles Ashby said: “Jenny is a relatively new exhibitor and it os the first time she has won the top prize.”
Mr Ashby won a big prize himself – the K Heryett Cup for most points in the flower section.
The cooking was well supported, with Mary Apsimon winning three first prizes. The Judge, Mrs Des Banks, commented on the high standard of baking produced by the exhibitors.
There were several new children entering the children’s classes and each was rewarded with a special prize of an Easter egg by the society.
Sunflower seeds were also given to the children to grow, ready for the autumn show, in the section for the largest sunflower.
Steyning Flower Club and Steyning Camera Club exhibited examples of their recent work and refreshments were served throughout.
