Stars will be shining at annual ceremony

UNSUNG heroes from across the area will be celebrated on Sunday, at the Herald & Gazette’s fifth annual Community Stars awards ceremony.

There are so many people who make a real difference to where they live, whether it is by helping others, being a pillar of the local community or just going that extra mile for the greater good.

The nature of these people means they tend not to seek the limelight, but the Herald & Gazette team is determined that their efforts do not go unrecognised.

That is why, every year, they are given their chance to shine, at the Community Stars awards event, held at Worthing’s Dome and presented by television legend Fred Dinenage, left.

Over the past few months, nominations were sought and readers then voted for their winners. Hundreds of votes have now been counted, and the winners will be unveiled at the ceremony, with doors at the Dome opening at 2.30pm for a 3pm start.

Herald & Gazette editor-in-chief Colin Channon said: “The Community Stars awards are our way of saying ‘thank you’ to all those people who really make a difference, often without reward or recognition. They are the lifeblood of our communities, the people who make things run smoothly and right wrongs.

“The awards event is one of the highlights of the year, for me, and it is both inspiring and humbling to hear so many tales of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.”

Tickets for Sunday’s event are free, and can be reserved by calling 01243 534140.

A limited number will also be available on the door, but people are advised to book.
