Special ‘pothole patrols’ out to target the scourge of motorists

Now, West Sussex County Council is attempting to tackle the issue, in an attempt to restore road surfaces back to their former glory.

The council is sending out dedicated “pothole patrol” crews to deal with the worst-hit areas and is urging the public to upload details of potholes they encounter to the “Love West Sussex” live map on the council’s website, so the damage can be quickly assessed.

County council cabinet member for highways and transport, Pieter Montyn, said the council was tackling the problems caused by the recent downpours, which also led to widespread flooding across the area.

He said: “We are dealing with the havoc caused by some of the worst wet weather for over a century and, while we cannot get on top of this situation overnight, we ask drivers to please be patient and bear with us while we fix these problems.

“In the meantime, the onus is on road users to drive responsibly and take greater care when out on the roads.”
