FIREMEN spent the night at a Southwick property after a blaze broke out on Sunday evening.
The first-floor of the chalet bungalow in Old Shoreham Road was left severely damaged by fire and smoke.
Five fire engines attended, one from Shoreham, one from Worthing, one from Brighton and two from Hove.
The fire broke out in a first-floor bedroom at 9.08pm but the cause is not yet known.
There were six people in the property at the time but no-one was injured.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus and two high-pressure hose reels to tackle the blaze and they remained at the scene until 5am today.
