Michael Wall, known on the music circuit as Wax Worx, entered the nationwide competition along with thousands of other entrants and came out on top.

He said: “I’ve been following Fatboy Slim since the ‘Better Living By Chemistry’ days and he is the DJ that inspired me not to give up on my music, to carry on pushing and give it everything I’ve got.”

At the end of 2015 Fatboy Slim, known locally as Norman Cook, teamed up with UK event promoter LWE to launch a DJ competition to hunt down the best emerging talent in the UK.

The winner would have the opportunity to play alongside Fatboy Slim at his new Smile High branded events – a dream Michael was able to achieve. He said: “It was absolutely amazing – a life dream come true.”

Following an eight week campaign, the DJ and producer, who was born and raised in Shoreham, beat the many hopefuls to the post to be crowned the Smile High winner by Norman himself.

Jack Kane of LWE Events said: “Wax Worx mix grabbed us from the start. He followed the criteria we had asked for and all the random smiley moments we were looking for shone through, outstanding mix and deserved winner.”

Michael has now officially remixed Fatboy Slim’s 1998 classic ‘You’re Not From Brighton’, which already has more than 30,000 plays in less than a month.

Michael said: “On Christmas day I was in the kitchen and my wife was making Christmas dinner and I got an email from Skint Records who told me that Norman decided to give the track away as a free download on his Soundcloud.

“That’s the best Christmas present I’ve had since the Millennium Falcon.”

Michael is no stranger to attention from the industry’s biggest names.

He has already received support from DJMags’ 2015 Best OF British DJ Eats Everything; he impressed listeners with his ‘One House’ track at Glastonbury live on Radio 1; and his latest techno track ‘Kosh’ sat in the Top ten Techno charts for five weeks.

He was also featured on Birmingham DJ Low Steppa’s ‘House N House’ sessions.

Michael added: “This really means the world to me and can’t thank him enough. I can’t stop smiling.”
