Sandra Cheatham was considered to be ‘part of the family’ at the care home in West Street, Sompting, starting her career in 1990 as a care assistant looking after the 41 elderly residents living there.

After 15 years of caring, she transferred to laundry assistant, a post she held for ten years.

Scarlett MacDonald, home manager said: “Sandra was a valued member of the team. When you consider that the average length of a job tenure in Britain is just over eight years, her loyalty to us is a wonderful acknowledgement that the Rectory is a friendly place where everyone feels at home.

“We will miss Sandra, but hope she enjoys many happy retirement years with her husband Dennis, and visiting her children and grandchildren.”
