Soldiers and cadets honoured at special ceremony

SOLDIERS and cadets have been honoured by the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex.

At the annual Reserve Forces, Cadet Movements and Regular Army awards, hosted by Susan Pyper, a group of 20 people from all three services were awarded medals and certificates for their dedicated service.

Among those honoured were Lieutenant Andrew Seggie, 48, from Littlehampton, who has served with Worthing Sea and Royal Marines Cadet Corps for 10 years, and his daughter, 16-year-old Leading Cadet Sonya Seggie, a student at Northbrook College, who has served at the same unit since 2005.

Lieutenant Seggie was awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s meritorious certificate in recognition of his outstanding loyalty and commitment to the Volunteer Reserve Forces.

Leading Cadet Seggie was named the Lord-Lieutenant of West Sussex’s Sea Cadet of the year.

East Preston’s Flight Lieutenant Steven Pearson, 50, of HQ Sussex Wing Air Training Corps and Chief Petty Officer Robert Picknell, 37, from Portslade, who serves with Worthing Sea and Royal Marines Cadet Corps, were also presented the meritorious certificate.

Leading Cadet Paul Nicholls, 16, from Worthing, who also serves with the town’s Sea Cadet Corps, was named the Lord-Lieutenant’s Royal Marine Cadet of the year.

Leading Cadet Nicholls is studying catering at Northbrook College.

Dignitaries from across the county joined the Lord-Lieutenant for the ceremony which was also attended by family, friends, colleagues and employers of those receiving awards.
