Nick Eager designed a snooker-themed card game which he hopes to bring to market after initial interest from industry legends and retailers.

Worthing-based Nick, 52, who works at Equiniti, in Durrington, and formerly of Littlehampton, said: “It was a light bulb moment, really. I’ve designed a few card games before but this one stuck out.

“I was actually in bed awake one night and the idea came to me, so I thought about it more and realised it could actually work.

“When I was a kid I was always cutting things up and making games so I think my interest started there.”

After finalising the detailed designs, sports fan Nick researched various manufacturers, before settling on an Indian company for cost reasons.

He had prototype decks made and began firing off emails to various retailers and snooker governing body, World Snooker.

Nick gained serious interest from World Snooker and Harrods but has not been able to secure any vital orders in a notoriously difficult market to penetrate.

He said: “I had a conversation with the commentator, Clive Everton, who said I could put it on his website but I didn’t have any products available to sell at that point.

“I am still sending off emails but what I really want to do is let people know about the game and get some boxes made and see how it goes.

“Harrods were interested but only wanted to order 20 packs, which would have cost me too much to make. I really needed several hundred to make it worthwhile.”

The card game involves players racing to make top breaks, using the coloured snooker ball cards.

Opponents can thwart their rivals by picking up ‘foul’ and ‘snookered’ cards to bring breaks to a halt.

“It’s a great game which works so well,” said Nick.
