Sixth forms and colleges across Worthing and Lancing celebrate A-level successes

Sir Robert Woodard Academy, in Upper Boundstone Lane, Lancing, had its best AS level performance ever, while history was a particularly strong subject, with 66 per cent getting A*-B.

Vice principal Katie Scott said: “Today’s results demonstrate that SRWA is a good Sixth Form option for students within the local area where they are supported to realise their talents and fulfil their potential.

“I would like to offer students my warmest congratulations and, on their behalf, thank all their teachers for their contribution to making these results possible.”

Worthing College, in its first year at its new campus, in Sanditon Way, Worthing, saw 39 per cent achieve A*-B grades.

Its BTEC Level Three pass rate was strong at 96.9 per cent.

Principal Peter Corrigan said he was ‘extremely proud’ of the efforts of both staff and students.

He said: “These results reflect the quality of teaching and learning and outstanding learning environments that we offer.

“This has been a fantastic year and our students have enjoyed outstanding facilities at our new college.”

Elsewhere, the area’s independent schools saw several successful students achieve their places at Oxford and Cambridge universities.

A fifth of A-levels taken at Lancing College were awarded A* and more than half managed A*s or As.

Richard Clarke, from Worthing, got four A* grades and will be studying natural sciences at Cambridge in September.

He said: “I’m pretty pleased with these results. I wouldn’t say I was expecting them but hoped I would do well.

“I am relieved but exhausted at the same time.”

Sion, in Gratwicke Road, Worthing, achieved an A*-C rate of 86.4 percent, with two thirds A*-B.

Headmaster Michael Scullion said: “We are very proud of the students here and we understand it is a very important day for them.

“I would like to congratulate our students and our teachers on our results. This is a very special school and what is important about this school is that we want our students to do their very best in all aspects of their school lives, building character and outside of school experiences.”
