Shoreham students win national awards

Students from Shoreham Academy are celebrating after winning national awards for excellence.

United Learning, the group of schools which includes the academy, held its annual Best in Everyone Awards on Friday.

Five students from Shoreham were chosen from the hundreds of nominations for outstanding achievements among students and their teachers.

Principal Jim Coupe said: “I am unbelievably proud that five Shoreham Academy students were selected to receive Best in Everyone Awards.

“There was a record number of nominations this year so we were delighted to have five winners overall.

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the presentation evening and were an absolute credit to Shoreham Academy.”

Aleigha Bushara from year ten won the award for dance, years ten to 13.

She said: “I feel like my hard work has been noticed and I feel very proud of myself for achieving this award.”

Jamie Redford from year nine won the award for geography, years seven to nine.

He said: “I am very happy with my award and I am very excited and feel privileged to have received it.”

Sam, who also performed at the event, said: “It was a really special award to achieve and I was very pleased.”

Billy Groom, who won Sportsman of the Year, said: “I am honoured to have been nominated for this award and thankful to Shoreham Academy and United Learning. I am really proud.”

Natasha Tredgold from year 11 won the award for classics, years ten to 13.

Jon Coles, chief executive of United Learning, said: “Each year, these awards recognise the remarkable achievements of students from across our group and provide us with an opportunity to celebrate their talents, subject excellence and determination to succeed.

“Yet again, we had the difficult task of choosing winners from among a very impressive range of candidates nationally and I hope therefore that every award winner takes great pride in their success.

“The Best in Everyone Awards are also a time for us to show our appreciation for the hard work and commitment of staff across our schools and the crucial role they play in supporting and enabling students to achieve their very best.

“While this year’s awards celebrate several particularly outstanding contributions, I would like to thank all our teachers, support staff and governors who continue to make a difference in each of our schools.”

The ceremony was held in Stratford-upon-Avon, where award winners gathered with teachers, guests and representatives from United Learning.
