Shoreham Scouts marathon challenge

EATING 26 baked beans with a cocktail stick and keeping quiet for 26 minutes were just some of the "marathon" challenges undertaken by Beavers and Cubs from 1st Shoreham Scout Group.

Fifty-two youngsters took part in the Children's Marathon Challenge at the Hillside camp site, Small Dole, at the weekend to raise money for Children with Leukaemia.

Whereas marathons are 26 miles of running, this challenge was based around the number "26", so the organisers decided to do 26 activities related to Beaver and Cub badge work and base it at the Scout district camp site.

Leader Jane Davis said: "We managed to do most of the challenges, despite the weather.

"I think mud slides would have been a good challenge had we known what the weather turned out to be, as Hillside turned into a quagmire with all the rain we had.

"We hope to have raised more than 500 in sponsorship for the charity."
