Shoreham relic to be restored

A Victorian relic has been saved from destruction and will be restored to its former glory in Shoreham.

Philip Foster, managing director of Urban Life Developments, which is planning to redevelop the former Parcel Force site in Brighton Road, Shoreham, recently took possession of the wrought-iron and glass roof which originally adorned The Vinery building in Shoreham in around 1840.

He plans to reinstate the Vinery roof to its former glory, finding a new home for it in Shoreham.

Although the roof is not listed, it is a significant part of Shoreham's heritage.

Erected in the 19th century, it is a rare surviving piece of the Victorian era. It pre-dates, but uses similar technology to, the Crystal Palace construction built for the 1851 Great Exhibition.
