A SHOREHAM businessman is gearing up to run two big races this month.

Matt Henderson-Rood, co-founder of House of Hugo in Dolphin Road, Shoreham, will be tackling the Brighton 10 mile and Great South Run in the same week to raise funds for Dog Assistance in Disability (Dog A.I.D.).

Matt has recently become a Patron for Dog A.I.D., a charity which helps people with disabilities train their pet dog to assistance dog level. He also runs the House of Hugo doggie super centre with his partner Leon, which featured on television series ‘The Dog Hotel’ on channel WATCH.

The Brighton 10 mile is on Sunday, and the Great South Run is a week later on October 25.

Dog A.I.D. facilitates people with disabilities in helping to train their pet dog to carry out tasks such as picking up dropped items, opening doors, fetching the telephone and passing over a purse/wallet at a till.

Matt said: “It is absolutely amazing how hard Dog A.I.D. works to deliver this unique method of training an Assistance Dog. I feel privileged to have become a Patron for the Charity and this is one of the many ways I have chosen to support them.”

Dog A.I.D. was established in the 1990s and there are currently 49 fully-qualified dogs in the UK. Training takes from 18 months to two years with both dog and owner receiving specialist education. For more details see To sponsor Matt see
