Shoreham Beach man faces racial abuse charge

A SHOREHAM Beach man has been charged following a racial abuse incident on a bus.

Richard Whelan, 34, of Harbour Way, will appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on March 25, charged with threatening or abusive racially aggravated behaviour.

Police appealed for help identifying a man in a CCTV image after a 40-year-old man was racially abused on a Coastliner 700 bus at 11pm on December 12 when a man was racially abusive to him and threatened to assault him.

PC Karen Goshawk said: “I would like to thank the media and the public for helping us to identify our suspect.

“We will not tolerate racism and will investigate any reports of racist incidents.”
