The young musicians were aiming to inspire 10,000 tired runners to continue to the finish from the Mile 17 staging point.

Band members aged seven to 18 years, which included such Allstars regulars such as Hybrid Holiday, Sugar Crackalama and Gravity’s Invisible Ghost Hands, played from the group’s own converted mobile stage.

Their uptempo and energetic songs boosted the runners’ spirits and give them a lift at a crucial stage in the marathon.

It was was the third year running that the Allstars have played at the marathon, kicking off a busy summer of gigs for the collective with upcoming appearances at Wild Life Festival, Paddle Round the Pier, Beach Dreams and Worthing Velodrome.

David O’Connell, Allstars founder and manager, said: “The runners in the Brighton Marathon are putting in such huge efforts while raising great sums of money for charity, so it was a privilege to be a part of it.

“For the Allstars kids, it’s great to be able to contribute something to a local community event and see the positive effect that their music and performance has on the runners.”
