Shoreham Air Show '“ details announced

DETAILS of this year's Shoreham Air Show have been announced.

The big event will be on Saturday, September 15, and Sunday, September 16, and the theme will be the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain memorial flight.

Last year's Hurricane and Spitfire scramble was such a success that organisers have increased the number of aircraft involved in the display to 10, alongside two German planes.

More pyrotechnics will also feature, as well as extra support from ground crews and anti-aircraft guns to enhance the airfield attack experience.

Other attractions include a B25 Mitchell from Holland, Peter Teichman with his Kittyhawk and Mustang, and Carolyn Grace opening both days with her two-seat Spitfire.

A first for the show will be the Gnat, as used by the Red Arrows under the leadership of the late Ray Hanna, flying alongside the Jet Provost, used by RAF display team The Poachers. The same team will also be bringing along the Huey Helicopter, which was used in Vietnam, with its well- known thudding rotors.

The Blades aerobatic team, which made its first appearance last year, will be back and the Royal Navy has promised organisers its helicopter display team.

The RAF Falcon parachute team will also be jumping on both days, hopefully from a Hercules.

There are more surprises in store at this year's air show, with more displays still to be announced.
