ADUR East Lions are taking Santa and his sleigh around the streets of Southwick this week, with the help of Sea Cadets.
All proceeds of the annual collection will go to the Royal Voluntary Service for its Meals on Wheels, and other local charitable causes.
Hove and Adur Sea Cadets help the Lions by going door-to-door.
Lion Susan Saunders explained: “We are extremely grateful to Hove and Adur Sea Cadets, who not only tow the sleigh with their minibus but run up and down the pathways with our collecting buckets.”
Collections were made in Windmill Parade, Mile Oak Road, Highdown, Greenways and the Upton Avenue area yesterday evening.
Tonight, the sleigh will be in the Manor Hall Road area, including Old Barn Way and The Crescent.
On Wednesday, it will be and the Southwick Green area, including Southview Road and Cross Road.
Thursday evening’s collection, the final one on the schedule, will be east and north of Kingston Broadway.
Ms Saunders said: “Although the club works in Shoreham as well as Southwick, there is a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ between the club and Rotary, which results in Rotary collecting in Shoreham and the Lions in Southwick, an arrangement that works very well.”
If any of the collections have to be called off due to the weather, then the sleigh will aim to go out on Friday instead.
