Scouts receive Duke of Edinburgh Award certificates

SCOUTS from Worthing, Littlehampton, Shoreham and Upper Beeding were among those to receive their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award certificates during a special ceremony.

It was held at the Lodge Hill Centre, in Pulborough, when the 25 were given their certificates by Lady Elizabeth Bennett.

Lady Elizabeth presented 16 bronze awards, eight silver awards and one gold award, before Nigel Colenutt, the Scouts D of E Award adviser gave a presentation on the achievements and highlighted the growth of the scheme within West Sussex Scouts.

Alex Morris and Luke Knight from Upper Beeding-based Sonic Shadows Explorer Scout Unit were among those taking part.

They said: “The Duke of Edinburgh scheme had provided us the opportunity to map out our expeditions independently and the freedom to complete the elements within the Scouting movement.”

Isabelle Dommett from Worthing-based Excelsior Explorer Scout Unit said: “I have enjoyed every aspect of the award and have been inspired to complete my silver and gold awards.”

Matthew Earnshaw, from Shoreham, received his gold award. He said: “I enjoyed the experiences of the D of E scheme and I am now in the position to share my experiences with Scouts at all levels, this is what Scouting is all about, fun, challenge and adventure.”
