Save Old Shoreham Tollbridge

THE future of Old Shoreham Tollbridge is in the balance, as restoration costs have risen by £140,000.

If the extra cash is not raised within the next six months, a 192,000 Heritage Lottery grant will be withdrawn.

Old Shoreham Tollbridge Community Trust chairman Liza McKinney is furious.

She said: "This would mean that the bridge would eventually be closed for good as the long beams that hold the decking are rotting."

West Sussex cabinet member for the environment Louise Goldsmith said: "We are still exploring possibilities of where we can find finance for the tollbridge.

"I would like to reassure residents that the county council is committed to finding a solution as quickly as possible."

Anyone interested in supporting the partnership or who has a fund-raising idea can contact Mrs McKinney on 01273 462233 or Vera Tickler on 01273 885994.
