Chris Copsey, known as Coppo, worked over the past 18 months for Media Sound Holdings, which owns Worthing-based Splash FM, plus Arrow, Bright and Sovereign radio stations.

Married father-of-two Chris, who was in his early 50s, lived in Scaynes Hill, near Haywards Heath.

It is believed he collapsed yesterday (Tuesday, January 11) while shopping in Sainsbury’s, Haywards Heath.

Allan Moulds, managing director of MSH, said: “Coppo had been a constant voice on the Sussex airwaves since 1983.

“He was a Sussex broadcasting legend, a consummate professional, but, more importantly than that, he was a great friend, and so much fun to be around and have as a colleague.

“He had mentioned to one member of staff that he wasn’t feeling great, but apart from that, no one was aware of any issues.

“The team is devastated at his loss.

“We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the response. He will be sorely missed.”

Chris took over as breakfast show presenter, networked across the four stations, in early December, having previously worked on the morning show and before that at Southern FM, now Heart.
