Rustington man to meet Queen on board Royal Yacht Britannia’s barge

A RUSTINGTON man will meet the Queen on Sunday (June 3) when he steps back on board the Royal Yacht Britannia’s barge as part of the diamond jubilee river pageant.

Brian Jane, of Beverley Gardens, worked as a petty officer and drove the barge which transported the Queen to and from the yacht.

Brian, 72, is already in London rehearsing for the pageant, which will see a thousand boats travel down the River Thames.

His wife Audrey said: “It was a very special time in his life. He met the Queen many times, so it will be nice to see her again on Sunday on board the barge.”

Brian served on board the barge and also on Britannia from the 1960s to the 1908s. One person who worked on the royal yacht has been invited to represent each decade, and Brian will be the oldest crew member on board.
