Rotary club makes donation to disability football

A TALK about disability football inspired Rotarians from Shoreham and Southwick to witness the sport for themselves.

What they learned about Sussex County FA’s offering for disabled people encouraged members of Shoreham and Southwick Rotary Club to make a £250 donation.

President Liz Box presented a cheque to Sussex County FA director Tony Kybett and chairman Matthew Major at Hassocks Sports Centre, following a Sussex Disability Football League training match.

Mr Kybett had been a guest speaker at one of the club’s weekly meetings in November.

Rotarian Les Baker said: “We were happy to host Tony Kybett and we enjoyed a very interesting talk by him about disability football in Sussex.

“He told us about the organisation and its never-ending quest for funds to allow this very valuable sport to continue.

“He talked about the regular training and matches at Hassocks Sports Centre and the great freedom and confidence the game of football gave the many disabled players, who without this organisation would not have any form of organised sport to take part in.”

In thanking him, Mrs Box said members would be pleased to attend a match and consider a donation from the Rotary club to help funds.

Mr Kybett and Mr Major said the money would will help with the organisations’s Development Plan, to raise the profile of the Sussex Disability Football League and encourage more participants through youth clubs and schools.

The Rotary club would be pleased to talk to any local people interested in membership and explain how to become involved in service to the community.

The club meets on Fridays at 1pm at The Amsterdam public house in Shoreham and welcomes potential members along to find out what Rotary is all about.
