A cheque for £100 was presented, covering two £50 donations in memory of members who died recently.

Don Clark from Upper Beeding had always supported the lifeboats and John Harrison from Shoreham was for many years the secretary of the Shoreham lifeboat.

Mr Harrison, who died in August at the age of 93, had a long and close association with both Shoreham Harbour and the RNLI.

He had a career spanning almost 30 years at Shoreham Port and devoted many hours to the RNLI cause, holding the coxswains and crews in high regard as they risked their lives to save the lives of others

Eight Rotary club members, led by vice-president Liz Box, joined 12 members of the Shoreham lifeboat crew at the station, on Kingston Beach, for the presentation to coxswain Steve Smith.

The second cheque, for £1,000, was a donation from the club ‘in recognition of the wonderful service Shoreham RNLI provides’.

Rotarian Les Baker said: “Like Rotary, they are all volunteers.”

Crew members assembled on the deck of the all-weather lifeboat for the presentation.

Mr Smith thanked the club and said the money would be well spent helping to maintain the rescue service provided to the public, as it had been for many years and would continue in the future.
