Ravers invade farm

CHURCH Farm in Coombes was invaded at the weekend as hundreds of people turned up for an illegal rave and trashed the farm's winter food supply.

Farmer Trevor Passmore said more than 100 cars and vans turned up and took over one of their fields at 1am on Sunday morning.

Mr Passmore said the field was being used by a model aeroplane club, who were staying there, with his permission over the weekend.

He said the ravers pushed over straw bales in the field and used others in a nearby barn as toilets.

Mr Passmore told the Herald: "They were woken up at one in the morning and people were walking all over the aeroplanes. They phoned us and they phoned the police, who came out later in the morning.

"We asked them (the ravers] not to go on the straw bales and in the barns, but they ignored us totally. We have to use the straw to feed the animals in the winter.

"They just totally ignored us, when we asked them to leave, ignoring the fact it was animal feed."

He said the police visited the site on several occasions on Sunday morning following complaints about noise, but could not move them on because they did not have enough officers for such a large group.

Mr Passmore said another illegal rave was held in one of the fields three weeks ago. The party over this weekend did not finish to around 7pm.

"The actual field was left clear, but it's the damage to the winter feed that has annoyed us," added Mr Passmore.
