Rail warning due to '˜severe weather'

A rail service provider has warned disruptions are '˜highly likely' due to '˜severe weather' conditions predicted for today (Monday February 8).

Southern Rail has warned that speed restrictions will be in place on some services from 11am due to 70mph winds which are expected across the south coast throughout the day.

The Met Office has said Sussex is set to be hit by Storm Imogen with an amber warning in place, between 3am and 6pm, ahead of the gales.

A statement released by Southern Rail said: “We plan to run our Monday morning service as advertised, however passengers are advised that disruption is highly likely and to check their journey before travelling.

“With the strength of the winds expected, railway infrastructure could be damaged as severe winds can blow debris and trees onto tracks and damage equipment and signals.”
