A group of 160 pupils from Holmbush Primary School, in Hawkins Crescent, walked down to Brighton Road to support members of Team Honk on the 47-mile leg of the relay.

The Sports Relief baton is being carried from Land’s End to John O’Groats and on Monday, the relay made its way from Worthing to Hastings.

Team Honk included Brighton bloggers Katrin Nash from Bare Chic Blog, Maddie Sinclair from Gammon and Chips and Katie Kirby from Hurrah for Gin.

Maddie said: “The whole day was fantastic. My favourite part was when Katie and I went past the kids from Holmbush, who were all madly cheering us on.

“It’s so great when the local community gets behind something like this and especially when the kids get to learn about good causes, like Sport Relief.”

The day started at 9am, when Katrin set off from Worthing Pier and ran four miles to Saltings Roundabout in Shoreham.

She passed the baton to Maddie and Katie, who walked two miles to Shoreham Port’s Nautilus House, in Albion Street, Southwick, pushing their children in buggies.

The journey took them past Shoreham Harbour Lifeboat Station, where the Holmbush pupils were waiting to cheer them on.

Sophie Wearing from Cider With Sophie then walked the next two miles, to Hove Lagoon, also with a buggy.

The relay continued with walking, running and cycling, sometimes in fancy dress, through Brighton and on to Eastbourne, Pevensey and Hastings.

The Sport Relief relay, featuring 38 regional teams, started in Land’s End, Cornwall, on Sunday, January 12, and will finish in John O’Groats in Caithness, Scotland, on Sunday, March 23.

Money raised by Team Honk, which included more than 200 bloggers, families and friends, will go towards projects which help vulnerable people in the UK and in the world’s poorest countries.
