Sussex Yacht Club hope to convert the building into a modern training, events and conference centre.

The renovation would complement the proposed Southwick Waterfront development, according to the club.

The property, which is the only Grade II listed building in the Southwick Conservation Zone, has had few structural changes made to it since it was bought by the yacht club in 1926.

The proposed development would aim to retain the heritage features of the building while making it more fit for purpose for members, local businesses and the community, the club claim.

Start-up funding has already been secured for the project through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Architectural Heritage Fund.

Now the yacht club are inviting the community to share their views and offer feedback on the plans at a community consultation event.

The event will take place on Thursday, October 20 from 6 to 8pm at the yacht club’s Southwick site, based at Riverside, Southwick, BN42 4AW.

As there are limited spaces available, people are advised to email [email protected] or call 01273 464868 to book a place.

The public can also express their views online via an online questionnaire
