Probus club marks 25th anniversary

STEYNING Probus Club celebrated its 25th anniversary with a dinner for members and their partners.

The club was entertained by Three Penny Piece, a female trio singing toe-tapping tunes from the 1930s to the 1950s, during the meal at Windsor Hotel in Worthing on Thursday, May 15.

A total of 64 people were taken by coach from Steyning and were greeted with sparkling wine served on the garden terrace.

After the four-course dinner, a number of short speeches was given by new and past presidents, and the members were thanked on behalf of the wives, partners and guests.

Committee member James Lang said: “Two of our founding members are still with the club. One of them talked about the forming of the club, taking us back to the ’80s with some interesting memories.

“Probus, a social club for semi-retired and retired professional and business people, have a close association with Rotary, so it came as no surprise that our guest speaker was the president of Steyning and Henfield Rotary Club.

“The next 25th anniversary will, of course, be our 50th year, 2039. As we are all retired, it may be possible that some of our younger members may be there to celebrate for us.”
