The Martlet Partnership, in Yeoman Gate, Durrington, has been boosted by the arrival of John Kimmer, a former president of the Association of Taxation Technicians.

He will focus on inheritance tax clients, an area the practice is keen to expand into.

Managing partner David Macdonald said: “John Kimmer is a very eminent tax professional.

“The arrival of John and his team to our practice greatly increases our ability to provide advice to clients in this area.

“They will fill a gap for us as none of us is an expert in inheritance tax and now we have got somebody on board who is.”

Mr Kimmer brings a wealth of expertise to the practice.

He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and the Association of Taxation Technicians and a member of the Court of the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers.

Until the end of March, he was also technical officer for the Association of Taxation Technicians and represented them at meetings with HMRC at the highest level, including both the current and previous head of HMRC.

He is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the Worldwide Professional Association for practitioners dealing with family inheritance and succession planning.

Mr Kimmer and his team officially joined the team from Monday.

Mr Macdonald said anyone with a ‘decent sized’ family home may be liable to pay inheritance tax and it was important to seek advice, particularly if the home is worth in excess of £600,000.
